Product Description
Clear skies or flat light, the S/View 3 Photo adapts without asking. Its photochromic Photo ML Blue lens sweeps from Cat.1 bright glare to Cat.3 storm grey automatically, reading UV shifts in real time. A cylindrical frame traces the curve of your face for a low-profile look and wide field of view, while tri-layer foam and double-lens ventilation keep comfort and clarity dialed in all day. Built for freeski, snowboard, and tour days alike.
Product Details
| Cylindrical Lens | Designed on a horizontal-axis base curvature that follows the curve of the face. Provides a wide field of vision, a low-profile aesthetic, and reduced optical distortions compared to flat lenses. |
| Photochromic Multilayer (Photo ML Blue) Lens | Responds automatically to changing light by darkening or lightening based on UV radiation from the sun. Category 1-3 range (VLT 12-52%). Multi-layered mirror finish increases protection from glare and reduces eye fatigue across varying conditions. |
| Double Lens Construction | Inner lens is thermally insulated from the outer lens to prevent fogging. Combined with 360-degree ventilation for continuous free-flowing air movement. |
| Anti-Fog Coating | Specific coating applied to the lens surface for increased fog resistance, complementing the double-lens and ventilation system. |
| Tri Layer Face Foam | Three layers of face foam for progressive comfort and a secure seal against the face. |
| Silicon Strap | Strap made with recycled yarns. Silicone grip keeps the goggle firmly on the helmet. |
| 100% UV Cut | All Salomon lenses filter 100% of UV rays. |
| OTG Compatible | Frame geometry accommodates prescription glasses underneath. |
| Accessories | Goggles bag included. |
| Intended Use | Freeski / Tour / Snowboard, All-Mountain |
| Colorway | Ebony / Photo ML Blue Cat.1-3 (SKU L47920100) |
S/View 3 Photochromic Goggles - Ebony/Blue FAQ
What does 'photochromic' mean on the S/View 3 Photo, how does it actually work?
The Photo ML lens contains a photosensitive compound that reacts to UV light from the sun. As UV intensity increases (bright sun), the lens darkens toward Cat.3. As UV drops (clouds, trees, tunnels), it lightens back toward Cat.1. The transition happens automatically with no input from you, covering a VLT range of roughly 12–52% depending on the colorway.
Is the S/View 3 Photo good enough for a full bluebird day, or will it be too light?
At Cat.3 (VLT around 12%), the lens in its darkest state blocks approximately 88% of light, which is appropriate for bright groomed days and spring snow. It's not a Cat.4 lens for extreme glacier brightness, but for typical all-mountain conditions in full sun, it performs well. The advantage is you don't need to swap to a darker lens as conditions change.
Will the S/View 3 Photo fog up?
The S/View 3 Photo uses double lens construction: the inner lens is thermally insulated from the outer lens, which minimizes the cold differential that causes condensation. An anti-fog coating on the inner lens adds a second line of defense, and 360-degree frame ventilation keeps airflow circulating to evacuate moisture during active riding.
I wear glasses, is the S/View 3 Photo compatible with prescription frames?
Yes. The S/View 3 Photo shares the same OTG-friendly frame as the S/View 3 family. The cylindrical frame provides enough interior clearance for most standard prescription eyeglass frames, so you can wear it comfortably over glasses without pressure on the temples or bridge.
What conditions is the S/View 3 Photo best for?
It's designed for all-mountain freeski, touring, and snowboard use in variable light. The photochromic Cat.1-3 range makes it ideal for days that mix flat light, clouds, and sunshine. If your sessions always happen in very consistent light (night-only or always bluebird), a fixed-category lens may be a better match.
How heavy is the S/View 3 Photo, and what does the foam feel like?
The S/View 3 Photo weighs 135 g (medium size). The frame uses tri layer face foam, three stacked foam layers that conform to the face for a cushioned seal. The strap is silicone-backed and made with recycled yarns, so it grips a helmet shell without sliding during hard efforts.
