The Stratos cuts through every condition the mountain throws at it with a tapered directional shape designed for float in powder and precision on hardpack. A Power Core laced with Bcomp Carbon Flax stringers keeps response snappy while absorbing the chatter, and a High 3D Contour Base smooths out the friction at the tips for an effortless glide. Is the Stratos more of a freeride board or an all-mountain board?
The Stratos sits between the two: Jones describes it as a hybrid all-mountain freerider. The directional shape and 10 mm taper lean freeride, but the medium (3/5) flex and versatile profile keep it fun across the whole mountain. Riders who charge off-piste but still want to carve groomers and slash side hits on the same day are the sweet spot.
How well will the Stratos float in powder?
Very well for a medium-flex board. The High 3D Contour Base has a 7 mm spoon bevel on the nose, reducing drag and promoting early lift. The 10 mm taper lets the tail sink naturally while the nose stays high. Float Pack inserts let you push your stance even further back on heavy powder days. The Dir. Camber / Rocker profile adds rocker at both tips for extra nose clearance in deep snow.
What is the Float Pack and when would I actually use it?
Float Pack is a set of additional inserts on the Stratos that let you position your stance much further back than the reference position. On deep powder days, moving to the Float Pack inserts shifts weight off the nose for better float without changing the board's flex or profile. On regular resort days you stay at the standard inserts. Just remount your bindings between sessions.
Will the Stratos hold an edge on hard groomed snow?
Camber underfoot gives the Stratos real edge contact and grip on firm snow. The High Traction Tech serrations along the running length compensate for reduced contact in the rockered nose and tail. The Bcomp Carbon Flax Stringer adds snap and edge response. It will not grip like a dedicated carving board, but it holds a confident edge for dynamic all-mountain turns without washing out.
Are there Wide sizes for riders with US boot 11+?
Yes. The Stratos offers 154W (waist 26.1 cm), 158W (26.3 cm), 161W (26.4 cm), and 164W (26.5 cm), all part of the Big Horn series for US boot 11 and up. Standard sizes run from 149 to 162 cm with waists from 24.2 to 25.8 cm for US boot 7 to 11. The size table specifies recommended boot range per length.
Can I ride the Stratos switch?
The Stratos is a directional board with 10 mm of taper, so the nose is wider than the tail and the geometry is built for forward-dominant riding. You can ride switch in casual resort situations, but it will not feel balanced the way a directional twin does. This board is designed to charge one direction with confidence, not to balance switch and regular performance equally.
