Katana Aw Fase Snowboard Bindings - Black FAQ

How does the FASE entry system work? Is it like a step-in binding?

FASE (Fast Entry System) lets you enter the binding quickly without manually strapping in each time. It's not a traditional rear-entry or pure step-in setup. The Katana AW FASE still uses OmniFlex ankle straps and ProGrip toe straps for the actual hold, with the FASE mechanism making the entry process significantly faster. FASE Kink Ladders add ankle positioning options specific to this system.

Will the FASE entry hold my boot as securely as traditional straps?

The Katana AW FASE uses the same OmniFlex ankle straps and ProGrip toe straps found on Rome's traditional strap bindings, plus a forged aluminum HeelHoop for heel hold. The FASE system changes how you enter the binding, not how it holds your foot once locked in. Strap quality and heel security are identical to the standard two-strap Katana AW.

Does FASE reduce my adjustment options compared to regular bindings?

Slightly, yes. The standard Katana AW offers 8 strap positioning options per side via PivotMount (64 total). The Katana AW FASE has 4 options per side (16 total) through PivotMount FASE. The FASE Kink Ladders add extra ankle positioning options specific to this system, partly making up for the narrower base range. Most riders find the FASE adjustability enough to dial in their boot comfortably.

Does the fast-entry system change how the binding actually rides on the snow?

No. The Katana AW FASE runs on the same AsymWrap platform as the standard Katana AW, with identical construction: 15% glass highback, 30% glass baseplate, forged aluminum HeelHoop. Flex character is the same (6/8/9 on the Playful-Precise scale). FASE changes how you get in and out, not how the binding performs on the board. Board feel and energy transfer are unchanged.

My boot is a US 8. Which size Katana AW FASE should I get?

US 8 sits at the overlap between S (approximately US 6 to 8) and M/L (approximately US 8 to 11). Most riders at that size go with M/L for a comfortable fit. The FASE version is available in S, M/L, and L/XL across most colorways. Note: the Team colorway is available in M/L and L/XL only, not in S.

Is the Katana AW FASE a good pick for park laps where you're booting in and out constantly?

Yes, that's a core use case for FASE. The Fast Entry System lets you get into your bindings quickly between laps without wrestling with traditional buckles every time. The Katana AW FASE also carries a flex of 6 on Rome's Playful end, which suits freestyle and park riding. It's a practical pick for riders who want to spend more time riding than clicking in.
