Product Description
The Matriarch is CAPiTA's new freeride-meets-freestyle machine, born from collaboration with Torstein Horgmo. Its Alpine V4 Directional camber delivers explosive pop and locked-in edge control on groomers, while the Transcend Core and Hybrid HolySheet Tri/Tri SuperCarbon construction keep the ride snappy and weightless. When the resort runs dry, point it at a natural feature or a powder field and let the big-radius tip do the rest.

The Matriarch Snowboard 2027 FAQ
Who is this board made for?
The Matriarch is built for confident intermediate to advanced riders who blend freestyle movement with freeride ambition. Skill level caps at 5 out of 5. The directional shape with setback means it's designed for riders who want to charge natural terrain and backcountry transitions, not just park laps. On this board, you get a platform that rewards riders who like to link terrain features and make intentional decisions on varied snowpack, not just follow groomed trails.
What makes this board worth the investment?
The Matriarch combines three premium layers: a lightweight core built from paulownia, poplar and bamboo with full-length structural beams; triaxial fiberglass layered top and bottom with carbon additives; and a durable sintered base formulated for reduced maintenance. On this board, that layering means you get responsive pop in tight snow and effortless float in powder without dragging the board down or needing constant waxing between rides.
What kind of snow and terrain does this board handle best?
The Matriarch shines in varied all-mountain conditions: groomed snow, powder, variable pack, and natural features from transitions to rock gardens. Its cambered profile (higher curve through the center, softer tip and tail) floats like a powder board but carves like a groomer specialist. On this board, you can ski power laps in fresh snow without sacrificing edge grip on hardpack, and switch between technical terrain and open slopes in the same run without feeling like you're fighting the geometry.
Why does it float so well in powder when it's also aggressive on-trail?
The board has a directional shape with 0.8 inches of setback, meaning the nose is wider and sits higher than the tail. Underneath, the core is enhanced with bamboo beams for stiffness, and carbon strips run near the binding area for response underfoot. On the Matriarch, that combination gives you a nose that banks on top of fresh snow while your back foot stays locked in for control, and the stiff mid-section keeps the board from washing out when you edge hard on ice or crud.
Is this a beginner-friendly board, or do I need serious experience?
This is not a beginner board. The moderate-to-firm flex (7 out of 10) and freeride DNA mean it rewards precise foot positioning and mountain awareness. The cambered profile demands commitment on edge and doesn't forgive sloppy technique the way a softer freestyle board might. On the Matriarch, you need intermediate-level stability and edge control to get the best out of it. If you're newer to the sport, a softer, more forgiving board will feel easier to progress on.
