Is the Stratos Split good for splitboarding beginners or does it require experience?
The Stratos Split's medium flex (3/5) and all-conditions profile make it one of the more versatile splitboards in the Jones lineup, well suited to riders who have been in the backcountry for a season or two and want a board that handles varied terrain. The medium flex is forgiving on variable snow while still responsive enough for dynamic freeriding on steeper lines.
What is the difference between the Stratos Split and the Solution Splitboard?
The Stratos Split uses medium (3/5) flex, Biax Fiberglass, and a short sidecut built for nimble slashing and all-terrain versatility. The Solution runs mid-stiff (4/5) with Triax Fiberglass, a longer sidecut for stability and precision at speed, and is oriented toward high-performance all-conditions backcountry. If you want agile, playful backcountry freeriding, the Stratos Split is the pick; for maximum performance at speed, the Solution.
What clip system does the Stratos Split use and will my touring bindings fit?
The Stratos Split uses Karakoram Ultra Clips 2.0, lighter and with a tighter clamp than the original 1.0 clips. Any splitboard-specific binding compatible with Karakoram pucks mounts on these clips for ride mode. In tour mode you split the board in two and use your touring binding interface as normal. Karakoram is the most widely used clip system in splitboarding.
How does skin management work on the Stratos Split?
Each size comes with a pre-cut skin (letter codes C, G, or D depending on size, trim M) that is shaped to fit that specific board. The Quick Tension Tail built into the Stratos Split replaces the traditional metal tail clip with a notch in the board's tail that keeps the skin under tension without hardware to lose or break in the field.
How does this board perform on steep couloirs compared to all-terrain touring?
The Stratos Split is versatile rather than extreme. Its medium flex and 10 mm taper make it nimble for slashing gullies, bowls, and tree runs, and well balanced for all-terrain touring where you cover varied ground in a day. On very steep, icy couloirs where maximum edge hold is critical, the stiffer Solution or Ultralight Solution would be a stronger choice.
What is the Flip-Flop Base and does it affect how the board rides?
The Flip-Flop Base is a manufacturing decision, not a performance trade-off. Jones makes the Sintered 8000 base in two colors to minimize P-Tex waste during cutting. The material is identical: premium sintered base, ultra-fast and highly wax-absorbent. The color does not affect glide or durability in any way. It is the same fast base as any other Jones Sintered 8000 board.
