Product Description

Built for ambitious hike-and-ride objectives, the Backland XTD Carbon 120 pairs a Carbon Loaded PA shell with a PA Carbon cuff to deliver a touring boot that earns its flex at both ends of the mountain. A 100 mm Touring Last keeps the fit honest for medium-volume feet, while 74° of cuff range of motion and three-position forward lean (13°, 15°, 17°) let you tune the geometry to the grade. For expert tourers who push the descent as hard as the climb.

Backland Xtd Carbon 120 Ski Boots 2027 FAQ

What's the difference between the Carbon 120 and the regular XTD 110 — is the carbon shell worth it?

The Carbon 120 uses a Carbon Loaded PA shell, making it stiffer and lighter than the standard PA shell on the XTD 110. You also get a higher flex (120 vs. 110) and the 3D Platinum Tour Liner with Dry Fit Foam. If you push hard on descent and care about weight over multi-day tours, the carbon version is the step up.

Can I use these with my regular alpine bindings at the resort?

It depends on which version you buy. The standard (AE5035040) has a Touring ISO 9523 sole and is not compatible with alpine ISO 5355 bindings. The GripWalk version (AE5035080) uses a GripWalk ISO 23223 sole, which works with GripWalk-certified alpine bindings at the resort and tech bindings for touring.

How much can I actually walk in these on the way up?

The Free/Lock 4.5 hinge gives 74 degrees of cuff range of motion in walk mode. That's a wide hike-mode range, more than enough for sustained steep ascents. Lock mode snaps back quickly for the descent.

I have a medium-width foot — will I get a secure fit in a touring boot with this much range of motion?

The 100 mm last is cut for medium width and medium volume. The Memory Fit shell is heat-moldable for a custom shell shape, and the 3D Platinum Tour Liner adds 3D ankle and heel hold. The boot is designed to hold your foot precisely even in walk mode.

How heavy is the Carbon 120 per boot?

1,380 g per boot at size 26-26.5, which is close to the XTD 110 (1,369 g). The carbon shell adds stiffness without adding significant weight over the standard version.

Can I adjust the forward lean, or is it fixed at one angle?

Three settings: 13, 15 (default), and 17 degrees. You dial it yourself to match your stance and style without a boot fitter.
