Is this fleece warm enough to wear on its own, or do I need a shell over it?
The Berber Fleece Full Zip is built as a standalone layering piece in Custom Print Berber Fleece with a Relax Fit, so it works fine on mild days or for apres. For cold or wet conditions, HOWL recommends layering it under one of their shell jackets, it's warmth without waterproofing.
What size should I get if I want to layer it under a jacket?
The Relax Fit runs roomy through the body, so most riders can size true and still fit a base layer underneath. If you plan to wear it as an outer mid-layer under a shell jacket, true-to-size in your usual fit is the safe call given the loose cut.
Does the fleece have pockets I can actually use while riding?
Yes. The Berber Fleece has large zip-up pockets secured with a YKK Vision zipper opening, plus elastic-bound cuffs and collar and a bungee toggle waist adjustment. That combination keeps gear secure and seals out drafts whether you're wearing it solo or as a mid-layer.
