No. The exterior is Full AX Grain Tech, a material Crab Grab developed specifically as a direct alternative to goat leather. They describe it as comparable in dexterity with exceptional durability, plus significant sustainability advantages. It's a performance material with real leather's properties, not a compromise. Crab Grab calls the result "tough luxury."
How waterproof is the Chop Mitt?
The Chop Mitt uses the 15K Dry-Claw Hipora membrane, a 3-layer waterproof breathable barrier with a microporous structure that blocks liquid water while letting sweat vapor escape. The shell also carries a PFAS Free DWR coating, and the shell fabric is heavy-duty woven nylon built to handle extended wet-weather riding.
How warm is the Chop Mitt for cold mountain days?
The Chop Mitt is mid-weight, using HOT CLAW 100% recycled insulation and Micro Fruzz liners. Hand Sandwich Construction places more insulation on the back of the hand where heat loss is greatest, and slightly less on the palm for better grip and dexterity. Solid warmth for standard mid-winter temperatures.
What is Wrapping Palm construction and why does it matter for durability?
Wrapping Palm construction means the palm material wraps around the hand in a continuous piece with fewer seams. Fewer seams means fewer points where the mitt can crack, separate, or let moisture in over time. On the Chop Mitt, it's one of the key reasons the palm holds up well through heavy use across a full season.
How grippy are the Chop Mitt palms?
The palm surface uses Grip Grid debossing: a textured pattern pressed into the palm material that increases friction between your hand and the board. Under the surface, Sure-Grip Resin Enhanced Palm Insulation adds grip via resin-treated insulation. Combined with the ergonomic pre-curved fit, the Chop Mitt locks onto whatever you're grabbing.
